Annual 9/11 Ceremony Planned at SCCC, Marking 25 Years

Twenty-five years have passed since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation. In the wake of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and aboard Flight 93, Americans came together in extraordinary unity. As we mark this significant anniversary, Sussex County Community College (SCCC) will join the community in remembering the nearly 3,000 lives lost and honoring the courage and sacrifice of the first responders who answered the call that day.

PBA 138 and SCCC will host a 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 11, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the College’s 9/11 Memorial on Connor Green.

The ceremony will bring together members of the college and surrounding community, including local firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, veterans, students, faculty, staff and area residents. The National Anthem will be sung by the Newton High School Choir, followed by welcoming remarks from the College President, Dr. Cory Homer. Guest speaker COL. Dave Melendez Jr. of the FDNY and Army National Guard will reflect on the day’s event.

A wreath-laying ceremony will honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, as well as the first responders. The ceremony will conclude with “Taps” played by Bugles Across America.

As the nation observes this milestone anniversary, SCCC invites the community to gather in remembrance and unity, ensuring that the lives lost and sacrifices made wil never be forgotten.
