The Blairstown Township Committee first heard from the Senior Advisory Committee, which expressed concern about possible cuts to the budget allotted to seniors. Mayor Moorhead assured the Committee that seniors would not be forgotten. Although budget cuts may be unavoidable this year, the Mayor promised to work with the committee to ensure essential senior programming does not suffer.
Anti-Data-Center Sentiment
The next comment was from a resident who had concerns about township permissions for data centers; the resident mentioned the ordinance proposed by Warren County Commissioner James R. Kern, which provides a roadmap for municipalities to address proposals for data centers and consider the impact of such a facility on the natural resources and quality of life in the area. Commissioner Michael Suk fielded her questions and explained that an ordinance prohibiting data centers in Blairstown was being written into the master plan.
Happenings in Footbridge Park
The commission heard a report from the Blairstown Enhancement Committee about the successful fishing derby in Footbridge Park, followed by a discussion about moving Jingle on Main. The fishing derby saw a headcount of over 150 participants, with the youngest being two years old. It was echoed by numerous people that the event was a warm experience for everybody involved.
The Enhancement Committee proposed that the annual holiday event Jingle on Main be moved from Main Street in Blairstown to Footbridge Park to allow for more parking and a safer atmosphere off the main road. The revised event, tentatively renamed “Jingle in the Park,” will be held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 28, 2026).
There was an update that the Farmland Preservation Program acquired a block of land that spans approximately 39 acres in Blairstown, in collaboration with the State Direct Project, which provides funding in place of county or municipal monies.
Concluding With a Budget Discussion
In the wake of the failed budget referendum, the Blairstown Township Committee had to amend their municipal budget for 2026. Due to the operating deficit left by the referendum, municipal projects and programs can be expected to slow in pace as the township tightens its belt on expenses.
