Esther Macean

Esther Macean, 95, of Blairstown, passed away on April 29, 2024. She was born December 13, 1928, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to Herman Jacotin and Messitane Macean.

Esther lived in Haiti most of her life before moving to the United States 30 years ago. From Connecticut to Florida and ultimately settling in New Jersey, she carried her warmth and faith with her wherever she went. Her journey within New Jersey, from Irvington to Union, and finally to Blairstown, reflects a life filled with transitions and adaptability. Despite these changes, her love for her family and her dedication to her faith and prayer remained constant.

Cooking and savoring good food with loved ones brought her immense joy, as did the company of those she held dear. Her love for singing speaks to a soul that found solace and expression in music, perhaps using it as a form of prayer and worship.

She is survived by her children Marie Nicole Princivil (Robert) and family; Marie Claudette Jeune and family; Pelissien Jeune (Veronique) and family; Marie Chantal Altenor (Allende) and family; David Jeune (Jennifer) and family; and Marie Florence Jeune J. and family. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Esther was predeceased by her husband Lucien Jeune and her two sons Frantz and Ernest Jeune.

May her love and spirit continue to resonate through her family, and may she rest in peace, reunited with her husband and sons.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a service at 12:30 p.m., on Monday, May 6, at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown. Interment to follow at Hope Moravian Cemetery, in Hope.
