Another Highway Death on I-80 in the Gap

A 27-year-old Essex County woman was killed Monday morning after being struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 80, along the notorious S-curves through the Delaware Water Gap.

New Jersey State Police said the accident happened about 8:20 a.m. along the eastbound lanes in Hardwick. A preliminary investigation found that a Volvo tractor-trailer was driving east and veered into the right shoulder where the woman’s disabled Honda passenger vehicle was parked.

The truck struck and killed Valdaishi Simpkins of Irvington. The accident remains under investigation.

The fatality is the second in less than two months along that section of the highway.
