Local 8th Grader Gets Top Regional Spelling Bee Honors

North Warren Regional (NWR) School District is proud to celebrate the exceptional achievement of 8th grader, Jackson Oatley, who has demonstrated outstanding spelling capabilities by securing 4th place in the prestigious regional Diamond City Regional Spelling Bee in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on March 10, 2024. The Diamond City Regional Spelling Bee is the qualifying Spelling Bee for the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in Washington, D.C., May 28-30, 2024.

Jackson’s journey to the regional competition began at NWR, where he emerged victorious in the school spelling bee held on February 8, 2024, winning the competition with the correct spelling of ‘decorum’.

The Diamond City Regional Spelling Bee, a challenging competition that brought together 69 of the brightest spellers from the Lehigh Valley and Warren County in grades 5-8, saw Jackson showcasing his exceptional spelling skills. After an intense four-hour competition, Jackson placed 4th place while spelling the word ‘eudiometer’, standing out in a highly competitive field.
