Roger Harmon Hoogendoorn

Roger Harmon Hoogendoorn, 76, of Huntersville, North Carolina, passed away on March 5, 2024, due to medical complications following a stroke.

He was born in Jersey City in 1947 to Joris and Blanche Hoogendoorn. Roger attended Snyder High School before earning a degree in history education at Wichita State University.

He went on to have a long and successful career in the wire and cable industry, working for Reichhold Chemicals, USI Chemicals, LyondellBasell and ending his career with T&T Marketing, Inc. when he retired in 2016.

Roger was a devoted husband to his late wife Lois, who passed away in 1997. They were married for 25 years. During their time together, they enjoyed collecting Indian artifacts, hiking, gardening and restoring their home in Columbia.

Roger was the loving father of Gwendolyn, Arie (Elizabeth) and Jessica (Christopher).

Roger loved his grandchildren above all else, always showing up with a treat or new toy and patiently listening to their stories. He always ensured their parents gave them a kiss and hug from him.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife Lois; his parents Joris and Blanche; sister June; and brother Joris. He is survived by his children Gwendolyn; Arie (Elizabeth): and Jessica (Christopher); grandchildren Christian, James, Katie and Annabelle; his beloved friend Connie; his brother Russell (Diane); sister-in-law Judy; and brother-in-law Ben as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roger’s name to Shriners Children’s or St. Jude Children’s.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 9, from 3 p.m to 5 p.m. at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 NJ-94, Blairstown.
