Janice M. Bowers

Janice M. Bowers went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 1, 2024.

She was born to Daniel and Mary Stockman in Somerville on May 31, 1938.

Janice attended Green Knoll Elementary School in Bridgewater and graduated from Somerville High School, class of 1956.

On May 4, 1958, she married the love of her life, Wilbur L. Bowers, Jr. and moved to Columbia where they raised their family. They would spend their retirement years living in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Janice worked for many years as a bank teller and retired in about 2000.

Janice had a great dedication to family history. She spent countless hours researching, cataloging and organizing the results of her research. Every Christmas in New Jersey, Jancie would make a Christmas dinner for the New Jersey State Troopers. Janice was often found serving others, being a confidant and a friend to those she met. Janice enjoyed walks with her loving husband, Wilbur, their dog Lucky and being outside. Jancie always had a garden and spent countless hours filling the jars with the produce from her garden. Janice served two voluntary missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her first mission centered around doing family history research in her home. Her second opportunity came when they moved to Virginia. This mission was a fellowshipping mission for her church.

Jan is survived by her brother, Daniel, and her children Audrey Grabowy (Rich); Alan (Lueana); and David (Robin); grandchildren Melinda (TJ) O’Connor; Rick Grabowy; Chris (Katie); Josh (Mariecar); Jon (KateLynn); Bryan (Caytee); Brent (Cedric); Seth; and great grandchildren Arianna and Kiera O’Connor; Ayden and Colsen Bowers; Kimberly and Killian Bowers; Theodore and Robin Bowers; Daniel, Leavitt and Madilynn Bowers. Jan was predeceased by her husband, Will; son-in-law Rich; daughter-in-law Robin; grandson Leavitt; and her brother Thomas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Newbaker Funeral Home in Blairstown. A viewing will be held Saturday, March 9, at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., and a repast at noon at Newbaker Funeral Home. Dedication of the grave will be at 1 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery, Portland, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, Janice requested that donations be made to the Elephant Sanctuary, P.O. Box 393, Hohnewald, TN 38462.
