Brenda Lu Stoughton

Brenda Lu Stoughton, 84, long time resident of Blairstown, passed away January 29, 2024, after a courageous 10-year battle with dementia.

Brenda was born on April 13, 1939, in Mine Hill to Fred and Henrietta (Churm) Eagles. She grew up in Mine Hill and attended Dover High School, graduating with the class of 1957. Brenda started her 36-year career with Picatinny Arsenal working for the Department of the Navy before switching to the Department of the Army ultimately retiring in 1993 as chief of the budget and finance office.

Before moving to Blairstown, Brenda had lived in Jefferson Township for many years. In 1993, she and Dominick designed and built a home where they have lived since. Brenda enjoyed a life filled with many friendships. She and Dominick loved to travel the world and had been to China, Australia, North Africa and Europe. She also enjoyed hiking and loved dogs.

She is survived by her life partner, Dominick Moreo, of 53 years and is also survived by her son Troy and three grandchildren.

A period of visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Newbaker Funeral Home, Blairstown. A liturgy of Christian burial will take place 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, at St. Jude Church, 9 Eisenhower Road, Columbia. Interment will follow at “New” Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Blairstown.
