Ferdinand “Fred” Charles Mamay, Jr., 79, of Columbia, passed away at home surrounded by family on October 28th, 2023. Fred was born in Newark, to Ferdinand Charles and Mildred (DeZenzo) Mamay, Sr., on November 23rd, 1943.
Fred was a proud veteran and served with the United States Air Force. He worked in computer services for the Ramapo/ Indian Hills High School district in Oakland.
Fred had many interests and talents in life and loved being around his family. He was a very involved grandfather in all activities and anything in which his grandchildren were interested. Fred played trumpet for the Bloomfield Civic Band, the Stone Soup Symphony, the Palisades Park Fire Department Band and the Franklin Band. He also really enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing and loved watching NASCAR. Fred, being a giver, also volunteered until early 1990 at the non-profit “Talent Time” in Bloomfield and was the stage manager of their off-Broadway fundraising event.
Fred is survived by his children Frederick Joseph (Katie); Lisa Ann Kooman (Scott); and Karen Del Giudice (Anthony); his grandchildren Nicole Shea (Anthony); Daniel and Zoe Kooman; Charlie, Jack and Elizabeth Mamay; and great grandson Aidan Shea.
Friends and family may gather for a period of visitation on Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Newbaker Funeral Home, Blairstown. Assembly at the funeral home starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 3rd, 2023, with a funeral service at 11 a.m.. Interment to follow at Hainesburg Cemetery, Columbia.
