James Oliver Quick, Sr., 87, passed away in Hackettstown, NJ, on August 24, 2023. Born Frelinghuysen, NJ, February 5, 1936, to Jacob and Helen (nee Stang) Quick. He was one of 14 brothers and sisters. He was a veteran of the US Army and employed as a factory worker for Bihler America, Alpha, NJ. His hobbies included being, playing horseshoe and bowling. After heaving rainstorms, he would actively search for arrowheads. An avid New York Yankee fan, he also coached hardball and softball and if he had spare time, he was also a fisherman and hunter. He also worked for Cooke Chemical and BP.
He is survived by his daughter, Cara Quick and son James Quick, Jr., 3 brothers and 3 sisters: Dave, Bill, Ralph, Grace, Jean, and Mary Lou, also 40 nieces and nephews, great nieces, nephews as well as great, great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley, daughter, Theresa, and his siblings, Tom, Elmer, Charlie, Jake, Donald, Ruth, and Alice May.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10-11AM, Friday, September 1, at Buttzville Methodist Church, Buttzville, NJ, followed by a service at 11AM. A private graveside will be held on November 23, 2023, at the Johnsonburg Cemetery, Johnsonburg, NJ.
