Richard William Schmidtberg Jr. (Richie, Scoot, Bruh-Bruh and OZ), 41, of Whiting, NJ (formerly of Jackson, NJ) passed away to his Maker on Saturday June 17, 2023, at Jersey Shore-Medical after a hard battle with cancer. He fought bravely to the end with his mom right by his side.
Richie was born to Richard and Ellen on Friday, April 23, 1982, in Newark, NJ. Richie graduated from Howell High School class of 2000. He then furthered his education at Brookdale College. Richie lived his life making others happy and laugh. He was naturally artistic, and he had amazing, talented skills in drawing and sketching. Richie had a wonderful sense of humor, making everyone laugh with his quick wit and impersonations. Rich has a very loving, generous, giving nature and caring, tender soul.
The greatest joy in his life was his nephew Jack… two of a kind. Rich was an avid animal lover, especially cats. He cherished his 4 cats Eddie, Ace, Boots and Cookie. Those were his babies.
Rich LOVED to cook and eat! He LOVED cooking for others especially if they were ill. His favorites were sushi, soup, and CHEESE. Richie’s main hobby was music, music, music! He owned many guitars. He was a self-taught musician and played by ear. He loved going to concerts with his sister Kelly and his Uncle Eric. He loved meeting with the artists getting a photo with them and their autograph. He has quite the rock music collection. His favorite bands were, Iron Maiden, OZZY, Lamb of God, Disturbed, Ghost, Megadeth, and Metallica. He also loved chilling out and having beers with family and friends.
At the time of his passing, he was employed by Quick Chek in Jackson. He worked with a great crew that loved and appreciated him. Richie was truly a Ray of Light and we miss him terribly, but we know we will meet again one fine day. We LOVE YOU, OUR RICHIE. We will never be the same again. The link in our family chain is broken. You ARE our sunshine!
Left behind are Richard Sr., his dad, Ellen, his mom, his sister and best friend Kelly, his precious nephew Jack, his beloved Uncle ‘E’ & Aunt Linda, his loving Aunt Alison & Uncle Bill. He also leaves behind many Great friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
We are having a private cremation for Richie with a Celebration of his Life later in autumn.
Richard has been entrusted to the care of Newbaker Funeral Home, Blairstown,NJ.
