Marie Adele Cavallo, 77, was called home to Heaven on June 5th after a long illness, with family by her side.
Born and raised in Newark, Marie graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel in 1963, and soon began working for NJ Bell, the Newark Board of Health and finally making a career at Sheet Metal Workers Local 25 where she worked as a claims processor until she retired in 2001.
In 2009, Marie moved to Hackettstown to be closer to family in her senior years. She loved spending holidays with family, traveling with her cousin Jo-Ann to various islands, enjoying the beaches and casinos, and always finding great music and jewelry.
A compassionate, generous soul, Marie took every opportunity to help a stranger, befriend the lonely and comfort the suffering. A quick trip to the store often resulted in making a new friend in the checkout line. She loved music, reading, movies, traveling, animals, good food and collecting jewelry, and was endlessly curious, funny, smart, thoughtful and quick with a smile, a joke and a compliment.
A devout Catholic, Marie loved learning about different religions and sharing the difference Jesus made in her life. She loved all animals great and small, and over the years was a proud parent to pet bunnies, birds and finally her beloved cat Gemma.
Marie is survived by her brother Anthony; cousins Jeff and Jill Knapp; “sister from another mister” Robin Kapiloff; and the many friends she met along her way through this world. She is predeceased by her parents Emily and James; dear cousin Jo-Ann Knapp; and sister-in-law Ruth Ann.
Final arrangements are under the direction of Newbaker Funeral Home, Blairstown, and interment will be at Gate of Heaven in East Hanover, in a private ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to an animal rescue charity, say a rosary in her honor, and always, always choose kindness.
