Michael Akers Walker

Michael Akers Walker, 83, of Morris Plains, passed away on March 30, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born December 21, 1939 to Francis and Greta (Bloomquist) Walker in Brooklyn, New York.

Michael graduated from Newark College of Engineering with a bachelor’s degree. Over his career, he worked for NE Bell, New York Telephone Company and AT&T, working for over 30 years. In his spare time, he was an avid outdoorsman, particularly hunting, fishing and hiking. He loved going out on his 30-foot sailboat and in more recent years, he especially loved his home in Vermont where he could ski. Michael also loved to travel and later in life he discovered cruising to all parts of the world.

He is survived by his daughters, Brett Forlenza and her husband Al of Milford, Pennsylvania; and Victoria Walker of Pennsylvania; his sons, Michael James and his wife Alyson of Longmont, Colorado; and Wayne Mathew and his wife Kirsten of California; his grandchildren, Shane and Hunter Livingstone; Karelia and Nico Forlenza; Emerald and Ruby Walker; and Winter and Kira Walker-Van Aalst; and three great-grandchildren, Stowe, Salem and Bauer. Michael is also survived by his special companion, Joyce Mc Dougall.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sharen; sister Joan; and brother James.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on April 10 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisonburg, Virginia. Services are entrusted to Newbaker Funeral Home, Blairstown.
