Centenary Stage Company’s NEXTStage Repertory Presents “The Addams Family”

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Centenary Stage Company’s (CSC) NEXTStage Repertory is currently in rehearsals for the spring musical production of The Addams Family. Performances will take place in the Sitnik Theatre on the Centenary University campus at 715 Grand Avenue, Hackettstown. Tickets are $22.50 for adults and $10 for students and children under 12. An original story about every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love with a young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. If that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother.  Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

The production is co-directed by Carl Wallnau and Lea Antolini Lid. Wallnau serves as the theatre department chair at Centenary University and the artistic director for CSC. He has appeared onstage and directed numerous times at CSC, most recently seen in the production of “The Ladykillers.” Antolini Lid is the assistant professor of theater and dance as well as the director of CSC’s Young Audience Series Tour, and the producer/director of the NEXTstage Rep. Summer Stock Musical Series. Most recently, Antoine Lid directed “RENT” in the summer of 2022, as well as the YAS production of “Frog & Toad” at CSC this past fall and was seen onstage as the stepmother in “Cinderella.” The cast features students of Centenary University’s theatre program.

Centenary University’s NEXTstage Repertory is the all-student performance division highlighting the close partnership between the professionally producing CAC and Centenary University’s theatre department. Under the guidance and direction of Centenary University faculty and CSC staff, all NEXTstage Repertory productions immerse Centenary University students in every aspect of production. From performance to design, NEXTstage Repertory productions serve as a greenhouse for cultivating the next generation of theatre artists by providing students with the opportunity for practical application while adhering to the professional standard of the CSC.

Performances will take place Thursdays, April 20 and 27, at 7:30 pm; Fridays, April 21 and 28, at 8 pm; Saturdays, April 22 and 29, at 8 pm; and Sundays, April 23 and 30, at 2 pm.
