Phebe S. DeBlock, 97 years of age, passed away peacefully at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice on March 3, 2023. She was born in Buffalo, New York, on November 9, 1925, to Frederick and Louise (Mee) Sacher and spent her early years on Randall’s Island and in New Hampton, New York. She graduated from Goshen High School and attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois. She married Sidney DeBlock on April 7, 1945, and they moved to their first farm in Goshen, New York.
The DeBlock family moved to their Blairstown farm 70 years ago, and Phebe and Sid soon became members of Lafayette Federated Church where Phebe taught the women’s Sunday school class, cooked many Wednesday evening fellowship suppers and sang in the choir. She was an amazing cook who loved entertaining in her home. Her free time was spent gardening, reading, knitting, playing hymns on the piano and connecting with family and friends.
Phebe was a woman of strong Christian faith who prayed faithfully for family, friends and anyone in need. She served as a volunteer chaplain at Newton Hospital and was a member of Gideons Auxiliary for over 60 years.
She is survived by her loving children, daughter Joyce Bensen and her husband David; son Donald DeBlock; son Robert DeBlock and his wife Eugenia; daughter Edith Wilson and her husband Bill; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Sidney DeBlock and also by her three sisters, Martha Wilson, Mary Makuen and Lois Salness.
A period of visitation will be held from 10 a.m.to noon, Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Lafayette Federated Church, 180 Route 15, Lafayette with a memorial service to follow at noon.
