Despite a strong second half, the North Warren girls’ basketball team was overpowered by Phillipsburg 51-28 in a February 14th contest.

Phillipsburg, a school with more than four times the enrollment of North Warren, held the Patriots to seven points against their 32 in the first half. That deficit was too much to overcome in the second half, when North Warren outscored the Stateliners 21-19.

“We had a much stronger second half,” Head Coach Jill Masker said afterward. “We started making those shots that we couldn’t make early on.”

The Patriots didn’t have many opportunities to score in the first half with the Stateliners keeping control of the ball from net to net. In the second half, however, North Warren went on a three-pointer spree, sinking two each in the third and fourth quarters.

Kathryn Hunsinger scored two from the cheap seats in the third, finishing the game with seven points for the night.

Megan Gallante and Kirin May each nailed a three-point shot in the fourth. May had seven points in the game.
