Russell David White

Russell David “Bucky” White, 86 years of age, resident of Newton in Andover Township, passed away on Feb. 16, 2023. He was born in Roxbury on July 26, 1936 to Percy and Olive (Gould) White.

Bucky was a self-employed sign painter, truck letterer and tattoo artist. In addition to artistry being a vital aspect of his employment, Bucky loved creating art that would allow him to express his natural talents and creativity such as painting and drawing pictures including both landscapes and portraits.

Bucky was also a self-taught musician, playing various musical instruments including the classic guitar, petal steel guitar, electric guitar, violin, banjo, dobro and piano. He also played the electric bass guitar in a band for many years. He was always delighted to sing and play with and for his family and friends. In addition to playing instruments, Bucky would also skillfully build, hand carve and design exquisite classic guitars and violins.

All this was done when Bucky was not renovating, remodeling or building his many residences throughout his life, but his ultimate pleasure came from caring for and enjoying the time spent with his family, friends and neighbors.

Bucky is survived by his daughters Elizabeth “Roz” Hickey of Punta Gorda, Florida and Gale Russo of Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Angela Russo of Allentown, Pennsylvania and Anthony “Tony” Russo III and wife Tanya of Roseto, Pennsylvania; and his dearest companion Dorothy “Dottie” Elliott of Newton; and many close cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” (Giancola) White; sons-in-law Thomas Hickey and Anthony Russo Jr.; and seven brothers and sisters.

A graveside inurnment will be taking place in the spring. Please check back for further details. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Russell “Bucky” White’s memory to St. Jude Research Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 03501.
