The Catherine Dickson Hofman branch of the Warren County Library offered two free classes where participants could make their own vision boards.
One class was for teens and the other for adults. All supplies were provided: magazines, scissors, scrapbook paper, frames and glue dots.
A vision board is a visual representation of the life you want to create. Display it in a place where it can be seen each day. The board can be the first step toward self-awareness and self-reflection.
It can help set goals for the future. One board is good but separate boards can be made to reflect different aspects of your life. You can focus on career, money, love, health, travel and social goals.
Cut out words and pictures that represent your goals. If you want to open a bakery, add a cinnamon stick. If you want to redecorate your home, add some beautiful fabric. If you want a better career, be open to the people you meet. A casual acquaintance may have a business that interests you, ask if they need help. This is one of many ways you can get creative and have a fulfilling life.
Oprah Winfrey, successful daytime television host with a national magazine, made her first vision board when she became friends with Michelle Obama. The former first lady asked her friends to visualize her husband, Barack, becoming President of the United States. Oprah‘s vision board included a picture of the dress she would wear when Barack Obama was elected President.
Since then, Oprah continues to use vision boards and she even taught a master class on how to create a powerful vision board. To learn more about Oprah’s vision boards, visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHyh0BXqJ0o.
Katy Perry, award-winning singer, made her first vision board at school in fourth grade. She knew then she wanted to be a singer. Perry pasted a picture of Selena, her favorite singer, holding her Grammy in the middle of the board. With hard work and tenacity, she is fulfilling her dreams.
