Rebecca “Becky” A. Cook, of Blairstown, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022.
She was born on February 5, 1957 to the late Vernon and Barbara (Stanowski) Brandt. Becky was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1975 graduate of North Warren Regional High School. Shortly after graduation, Becky met Richard “Dick” Cook to whom she was married until his death in 2018.
After having her three children, Becky began working at the Columbia Post Office as a rural mail carrier. She spent 38 years talking to, caring for and guaranteeing mail delivery for every family on her mail route. Becky would often hand deliver people’s mail right to their front door with a quick “hello!” and off she went, with her foot to the floor to the next house.
When not racing around in her mail truck, Becky could be found at home filling her bird feeders, weeding her flower gardens, baking her famous chocolate cake or chasing the bears. She enjoyed being outdoors and loved soaking up the sun on the beach. Upon retirement, one of Becky’s favorite past times was drinking wine and sharing laughs with her sister, Susan, or her dearest friends.
Becky was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family first. She had a way of turning simple moments into lifelong memories, especially for her grandchildren, as Becky’s favorite role in life was being “Grandma.”
Surviving are Becky’s son, Ryan Cook (Heather) of Blairstown; two daughters, Tina Powers (Ernie) of Wilson, North Carolina, and Melissa Callahan (Justin) of Quinton, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Liam, Tierney, Cailin, Brady, Emery and Caleigh; two sisters, Susan Van Why (James DeLotto) and Diane Stewart (Jim); brother, Blake Brandt (Lisa); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitations will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a service held at 8 p.m., on Friday, January 6 at Newbaker Funeral Home, 200 Route 94, Blairstown.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Blairstown Hose Company #1 at P.O. Box J, Blairstown, New Jersey 07825.
