Sandra Ann Dorrell

Sandra Ann Dorrell, 82 years of age, a resident of Knowlton Township, passed away at her home on Friday, November 11, 2022, with her loving husband, Mark Dorrell and son, Michael by her side.

Born on October 29, 1940, in East Stroudsburg, PA, to Chester and Margaret (Kitchen) Stanowski, Sandra attended Knowlton Elementary school and graduated from Belvidere High School where she maintained friendships with her 1958 classmates all her life, “The 58’ Crew”.  

She obtained certified medical assistant credentials from Warren County Community College and continued her education at East Stroudsburg University for her work as a chemistry technician at Lipton Tea Company in Flemington, NJ.

Sandy worked at Lipton Tea Company for more than 19 years.   She also owned and operated Sandra’s Attic, a custom drapery business and worked as an office manager for Warren Animal Hospital.   

As an advocate for the community, Sandy served on the Knowlton Township Committee.  She was the face and spirit of Markus Memorial Foundation, a non-profit organization that gave two North Warren Regional High School graduating Seniors financial grants for college.  

Personally, Sandy was an accomplished equestrian, master quilter, exceptional cook, and marvelous baker; as well as a loving wife, aunt, mother, and grandmother.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Mark P. Dorrell; son, Michael V. Markus; grandchildren, Chelsea Li Markus-Arbes (Andrew Arbes), Tucker Chet Markus, and Eric Randall Markus; and great-granddaughter to-be, Michaela Jane Markus-Arbes. 

Sandy was predeceased by her sisters Barbara Joan Brandt and Janice Cudney, and her beloved children, Frank Eric Markus and Margaret Jo Markus.

Special thanks to The Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice team; Lianne “Leesie” Markus-Owren and Russ Owren; Joy Pein and Jim Pyne; and Bonnie Drake for their unwavering kindness and unyielding friendship.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday November 16, 2022 from 5PM to 7PM.  Burial services will be private.
