Water Gap Singers will Present FREE Memorial Concert for John Arnedt – Sunday, June 12

The Water Gap Singers invite choral music fans to a concert honoring the group’s founder and Director Emeritus, John Arnedt, who died in March 2021. The program, to be held on June 12 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1 Main St., Blairstown, NJ selects from some of Mr. Arnedt’s  favorite choral music.

The Singers will perform the concert setting of Sine Nomine , known to many under the title For  All the Saints, with music scored by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Charles Villiers Stanford’s Te  Deum Laudamus in B-flat

The central work in this memorial concert is the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré, featuring solos by  Soprano Andrea Morokutti and Baritone Jake Hunt. While the piece retains the general  structure of a Latin Mass, the composer intentionally avoided the bombast, brimstone and  intimidation found in other Requiems, instead offering gentleness, compassion and hope to the  mourner. This work is known for soaring passages sung by the high voices, and rich vocal  harmonies throughout.

The program begins at at 4 PM in the sanctuary of the church with a reception to follow. ADA compliant access to the sanctuary is through the entrance on Bridge St. A free-will offering will  be happily accepted.

Funding has been made possible, in part, by the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Division.
