Gerald Gessie

Gerry Gessie, a professional musician, guitar player/singer and long-time resident of Blairstown, NJ passed away on May 1, 2022, at the age of 78.

Gerry is survived by his wife, Veronica (Ronnie); his son Gerry Gessie, Jr., his granddaughter, Gabrielle Gessie, his daughter-in-law to be Renee Guiliano and grandchildren-in-law to be Rachelle and Ryan Samson. Gerry’s family includes his sister Janice Kress and brother-in-law Bob Kress, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joan and Bob Baker and sister-in-law Bernadette Gall.

Gerry was born on December 16, 1943, to Salvatore and Laura Gessie. He graduated from Passaic Valley High School and afterwards enlisted in the United States Army. He was a Veteran of Vietnam.

Gerry was a master guitarist, singer and entertainer who was known as the “Poor Man’s Star.” This, his signature song, and talent garnered tons of attention throughout the state of New Jersey. For over 50 years, Gerry played professionally at Resorts, Fairs, Clubs, Parks, and several other venues around the country. In the most recent time, Gerry, and his loving wife of 55 years Ronnie, performed at a number of Assisted Living facilities as well.

A musical visionary, Gerry worked with Heritage Guitars on a “Little One” prototype guitar in which his concept was revolutionary both in technology and design. The Little One guitar bears his name on the headstock and has been featured in all major music magazines nationwide and online outlets.

Gerry will be deeply missed as he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and friend. He made an incredible impact on everyone he met. Always an entertainer, Gerry brought a smile wherever he went.
